FUE | ROBOTIC HAIR TRANSPLANT

This state-of-the-art robotic technology was created to eliminate the guesswork and fatigue associated with manual handheld methods, along with the scarring, complications and downtime of existing invasive surgical techniques.

ARTAS TECHNOLOGY

In the last decade, robotic-assisted surgical procedures (robotic surgeries) have become increasingly frequent because they are less invasive, more accurate and because their results are more predictable. Today, they are considered the “state of the art” in surgery. They lead to greater satisfaction for both the patient, and the health staff. Robotic hair transplant surgery, assisted by the ARTAS system, transforms the surgical experience for both the patient and the surgeon, and is causing a change in hair restoration paradigms.

ROBOTIC ARM

The ARTAS system of Restoration Robotics, Inc. (San Jose, California), utilizes an articulated robotic arm that allows movements in 6 different axes. A needle-mechanism attached to the robotic arm separates the follicular units from the scalp. This mechanism is guided by a stereo, high-resolution camera that individually identifies the angle, direction and density of thousands of follicular units from a previously defined field of vision. This system choses and dissects the best available follicular units by means of a sophisticated software that uses real-time algorithms. It chooses them individually and safely, with an ideal depth, and at the least traumatic speed possible. Additionally, the surgeon supervises this whole process. This system is extremely precise, controlled, reproducible and efficient.

QUALITY AND EFFICIENCY

The ARTAS system's greatest advantage is that it improves the grafts ́quality. It exclusively selects the most robust and viable hairs. The system successfully, and constantly, dissects hairs and leaves healthy tissues around the surrounding area. It is therefore the technique with the highest follicular unit survival rate. The ARTAS system is much faster than the manual FUE, even for an experienced surgeon. It requires as much time as the Follicular Unit by Strip technique, and it is 3 times faster than the traditional FUE technique. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the ARTAS system in April 11, 2011, making it the only approved robotic device for minimally invasive hair transplant surgery.

SPECIALIZED SOFTWARE

Additionally, the software uses intelligent algorithms to guarantee a natural appearance in the donor area. The ARTAS system uses a double, telescopic micro-punch system. This punch makes the first cutting incision, usually less than 1 mm in diameter, directly into the dermis. It then makes a blunt punch to maintain the follicle ́s integrity. The punch penetrates the follicule´s exact depth. This guarantees an easy dissection and makes it the technique with the lowest possible follicular-damage rate from all the existing surgical techniques.
